- Mary the Meditative
- Lazarus the Living
NOW: Judas Iscariot
- 1 Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came
to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
- 2 So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was
serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.
- 3 Mary therefore took a pound of very costly perfume
of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her
hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
- 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was
intending to betray Him, said,
- 5 "Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred
denarii, and given to poor people?"
- 6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about
the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to
pilfer what was put into it.
- 7 "Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended
that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. (NIV)
- 8 "For the poor you always have with you, but you do
not always have Me."

- 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple,

said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the
price of blood.

potter's field, to bury strangers in.

appointed me.

Judas the Traitor..."Worldly sorrow unto
death.."
- 2 Cor 7:8-9
- 8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not
repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made
you sorry, though it were but for a season.
- 9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that
ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that
ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
- 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation
not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh
death.
Contrition vs. Despair
- Godly sorrow leads to repentance
- Worldly sorrow leads to despair and death
- A comparison to of "Godly sorrow" (Peter) and "worldly
sorrow" in the next installment!
